Food Service Sanitation

Welcome to the Central Michigan District Health Department (CMDHD) food facility inspections website. Michigan Food Law authorizes the CMDHD to license and regulate all food service establishments within our six county health district which includes the counties of Arenac, Clare, Gladwin, Isabella, Osceola and Roscommon. These include restaurants, bars, cafeterias, coffee shops, donut shops, concessions, catering kitchens, rental halls, and private organizations serving the public. CMDHD has nearly 800 fixed, mobile, and vending establishments. The health department licenses an additional 250 temporary food service establishments each year.

Our mission is to protect the health of all foodservice customers. The internet offers an opportunity to share information to assist the public in being a well-informed foodservice consumer.

A person who wishes to serve food to the public is required by law to first obtain a license from the CMDHD. These licenses are issued following a review of facility plans, menu and standard operating procedures to assure compliance with the Michigan Food Law.

Keep in mind that each evaluation report is a "snapshot" from that day and time for every facility.

A routine evaluation during the operation of the food service facility assesses the operator's ability to conduct routine practices in a safe and sanitary manner.

Health departments do not regulate grocery and convenience stores, meat markets, bakeries, food warehouses, and food processing plants. The Michigan Food Law authorizes the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) to license and regulate these facilities. For further information or to make a complaint about one located in our six counties, contact the MDARD at 1-800-292-3939.
