Complainant stated eating at this facility on 02/16 and observed employees not wearing gloves when handling food. Front counter employee was handling money and then food without hand washing or wearing gloves. Complainant observed employee without gloves and with artificial finger nails going into food containers. When asked about the use of gloves, front counter stated only new employees are required to wear gloves as experienced workers know how to handle food without touching it.
We went to the facility and talked to the manager about the complaint. Manager stated not knowing why the front counter stated that only new employees are required to wear gloves but that the issue will be addressed properly. Manager stated all employees are required to wear gloves and wash their hands frequently when handling food. Manager stated they have been training new employees and that she will reinforce proper hand washing and use of gloves with all employees. Did not observed employees wearing gloves when making orders at the time of inspection. Employees were using tongs and utensils to get the food items. Observed employees washing hands at the time of inspection. Facility had gloves available at the time of inspection. Talked to manager about using gloves to avoid any potential bare hands contact with RTE food items. Observed employee with artificial fingernails but did not observe employee's fingernails inside food containers at the time of inspection.
Reviewed proper hand washing and use of gloves with manager. Also reviewed fingernail maintenance with the manager. Unless wearing intact gloves in good repair, a food employee may not wear fingernail polish or artificial fingernails when working with exposed food.
