12/09/2023 - Received call from my health commissioner stating that I needed to call the sheriff's office to be transferred to the fire department personnel who were at BW3 assisting them. Was transferred to Marion Township Fire and they gave the phone to BW3 employee, Destiny. She and I spoke and it sounded as if there were issues with the soda machine backflow device not working properly as the water in the building appeared to be contaminated with something. We both agreed that it be best to voluntarily close until they get the situation under control. We wanted to make sure that the water was safe not only for consumption but to ensure that whatever contaminant that got into the water doesn't affect the sanitizer levels in the dish machines causing the dishes to not be properly sanitized before their next use. TC

12/10/2023, I spoke with Destiny to check in to see if repairs had made and she was going to update once they are complete. TC

12/11/23 Spoke with Destiny and the soda machine had been repaired but they still had some concerns with the water being cloudy out of the machine before it cleared up and if they should test the water. We suggested they could have Alloway labs do lead/copper testing. We do not believe there to be any issues with lead in the plumbing system but wanted to make sure Copper didn't get into the system since carbon dioxide was introduced and could be corrosive to the copper. I spoke with Scott Ballinger of Aqua and he said they could have their guy stop and check the main backflow and pull a sample. That will be scheduled for at 10am. Aqua said their bench lab testing looks good and they feel confident that they should be able to reopen. We agreed and notified BW3 that they should be good to open the facility for customers. TC

12/11/23 Received phone call from Health Commissioner Kinsler stating that I needed to call the Sheriff's office again regarding a complaint about BW3. I called the Sheriff's office and they stated that they had received a complaint from customers who were in the restaurant since reopening and that there beverages had an oily sheen to them. I spoke with Destiny and she stated that the water quality looks good in the facility but she has concerns with the cleanliness of the glasses since they were washed while the plumbing was still not 100% repaired and she feels that that is the resulting reason for the complaint. She stated that staff will be washing all the dishes in the facility again tonight before opening tomorrow. She and I scheduled a time to meet on 12/12/23 at 10am for me to inspect the facility prior to their opening. TC

12/12/2023 Destiny and I met at the facility. They were flushing all of the lines to the soda machines. The water was clear and all of the dishes were clean. She did state that they put in a work request with Pepsi to have them come and replace some of the hoses on the soda machines as they appear a bit aged and could be replaced. No further action required at this time. They will be opening at their normal time today. TC
